HOME-MADE JEWELRY CLEANER -- This old fashioned, easy-to-make, home-made jewelry cleaner should keep your gold and diamond jewelry sparkling.

NEVER use this solution on jewelry with porous stones such as jade, opal, coral turquoise, malachite, lapis lazuli, amber and pearls, among others.

If you are unsure about a piece of jewelry, ask a local jeweler to identify the stone. Contact us and we'll tell you about the best cleaning method.

Mix equal parts cold water and plain (not sudsy) household ammonia. Store it in a glass jar with a tight fitting lid.

Place your jewelry in the jar and let it sit and soak for about 30 minutes. Use a soft toothbrush to gently brush away any remaining dirt. Rinse well with cool water. Dry and buff jewelry with a soft cloth. To give diamonds extra sparkle, after the jewelry dip, dip them in rubbing alcohol and buff them until dry with a soft cloth.

The jewelry cleaner can be reused. It's time to make a fresh batch when the liquid become dirty or cloudy. Be sure to label your glass jar and the toothbrush so no one will use them for any other purpose.
